County Effort Recognized by the American Planning Association
Northern Virginia’s local governments are undertaking outstanding and important work to address resiliency and sustainability in the fight against climate change. Congratulations to our colleagues in Fairfax County for winning an American Planning Association Award for their Resilient Fairfax plan.
The following is an article from their email newsletter on winning the award.
Resilient Fairfax Plan Honored with APA Award
Resilient Fairfax, the county’s plan to address the effects of changing climate on residents, businesses, and critical infrastructure, has been honored with an Award for Excellence by the American Planning Association.
The APA’s Sustainable Communication Division annually honors projects, policies, plans and people who show exemplary leadership and inspiration in sustainability planning and implementation in one of eight categories. Fairfax County’s plan was recognized for extraordinary achievement in the State or Regional category.
Adopted in November of 2022, the Resilient Fairfax plan establishes goals and strategies to adapt to and to reduce risks from climate hazards such as extreme heat, severe storms, and flooding. The plan was created through the collaboration of over 20 county agencies, along with dozens of community representatives, organizations, infrastructure managers, utilities, and the general public.
